Shahbaz reviews land record computerisation project

PUNJAB Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat to review the pace of implementation of land record computerization project.

Chairman Bank of Punjab, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Secretary Information Technology, Project Director Land Computerization Record and other officers concerned attended the meeting.

The chief minister said that the project of computerization of land record was pending since long and the government had taken up the responsibility of its early completion in a transparent manner. He said the project aimed at getting people rid of the existing obsolete system of land record and minimizing the role of the Revenue Department officials. He said that the project would facilitate people in acquiring record of their properties while forgery in the registration of properties would also be eliminated. To maintain complete transparency in the project, he said, Revenue Department officials would be selected after thorough scrutiny for the transition period for the data-entry of revenue record while later services of hardworking and talented persons would be hired from the market who, after necessary training, would be posted at different places.

He said that 60,000 computers were being given to 4,000 schools of the province at a cost of Rs.5 billion. The computers are being acquired from the firms concerned under a complete package including after sale service, training of teachers and other matters.

He said the project would also be completed on the same lines and world renowned firms would be selected for the purpose which would provide all facilities and expertise in this regard. He said that land record of all districts and tehsils of Punjab would be computerized under the project. Earlier, Senior Member Board of Revenue and Project Director gave a briefing regarding the pace of implementation of the project.

The meeting was informed that the process of data-entry was being completed expeditiously and it would be completely outsourced. It was further informed that service centers would be set up at tehsil and sub-tehsil levels while setting up of mobile teams for far-flung areas was also being considered.

share burden: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said it is the right of traders and business community to earn rightful profit but the exploitation of the poor cannot be allowed. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the chief minister said time had come for traders and businessmen to share the burden of the poor by helping the government reduce the price-hike.

He said industrialists and businessmen had played a commendable role in national development and the promotion of economic activities, but earning undue profit would tarnish their image. He said the Punjab government had undertaken effective planning to maintain prices of essential items at an affordable level, adding ninety million people of the province could rightly expect from mill owners, traders and dealers to help the government in this regard.

consumers’ interests: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the government would fulfill its responsibility to safeguard the interests of the poor consumers at any cost. He was addressing a meeting held to review the measures taken against the elements involved in the hoarding of sugar, and the establishment of Ramazan Bazaars in the province.

Minister for Food Malik Nadeem Kamran, the addl chief secretary, the Home secretary, the inspector general of police, the Food secretary, the Industries secretary, the Lahore commissioner and other officers concerned were present.
