PM orders shifting of Ravi Toll Plaza

LAHORE-Chairman Evacuee Property Trust Board (EPTB) Syed Asif Hashmi on Thursday announced that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had issued orders for shifting of Ravi Toll Plaza from Ravi Bridge to some outside location to meet a long standing demand of Shahdra residents who had to pay the toll tax unnecessarily like other commuters traveling to Islamabad and other cities.

According to a press release, Mr Hashmi made this announcement while talking to reporters at his Shahdra residence in NA-118.

Hashmi further told reporters that President Asif Ali Zardari had already waived off toll tax for Shahdra residents on production of Identity cards, and now the PM had ordered permanent shifting of the Toll Plaza outside the City away from its exiting location. He said he was thankful to the prime minister for addressing the grievance of the people on his request. Hashmi said that both the PM and the president were determined to implement people-friendly policies.

Meanwhile, political and social organizations in NA-118 have thanked Syed Asif Hashmi for his successful efforts at resolving their issues.

Gwadar Port : Hidden forces creating hurdles in development

ISLAMABAD: The legislators on Thursday expressed their apprehensions that some hidden forces are behind the scene creating hindrance in the full functionality of Gwadar Port, which is already developed but cannot complete its roads connectivity with rest of the country.

Members of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Ports and Shipping expressed these views during a meeting under the chairmanship of Rana Mahmood-ul-Hassan.

LDA auctioned 8 plots

LAHORE – A total of eight plots, including two commercial as well as six residential chunks of land situated in various housing schemes of LDA were auctioned against a sum of Rs 41.79 million by the Lahore Development Authority on Thursday.

Open auction of 24 residential and 11 commercial plots of different housing schemes was held in LDA Community Centre, 239-A, New Muslim Town.

Another road in Lahore?

The Punjab University was founded in 1882. The history of its creation and founder, the Anglo-Hungarian orientalist Gottlieb Wilhelm Leitner, are remarkable but better served in another column. In 1960, the university constructed a New Campus (now known as the Quaid-e-Azam Campus) on 1800 acres of land along the Lahore Canal.

The New Campus was designed by the Greek architect Constantinos Doxiadis (who also designed the original master plan of Islamabad), and was meant to be an oasis of academia, far removed from the hustle and bustle of the city; a place of uninterrupted learning and quiet reflection.
