MUZAFFARABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani will visit Mirpur on Monday to perform the groundbreaking of two mega projects.
According to official sources, Mr Gilani would inaugurate the initiation of work at Miran Shah Ghazi Bridge linking Islamgarh
and Mirpur on opposite banks of Mangla Lake.

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani directed National Highway Authority to focus on completion of projects, which have already been completed to the extent of 70 per cent instead of initiating new projects. He also directed to maintain equitable distribution of development funds among the provinces.
Prime Minister passed these orders while taking briefing from the Secretary Communication and Chairman, NHA on the mega projects completed in Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan/AJK which have immense importance from the connectivity point of view and generating economic activities in the country besides bringing people of far flung areas closer to people living in other parts of the country.

ISLAMABAD: Overloaded vehicles carrying North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) supplies to Afghanistan have damaged the country’s road network, and Rs122.95 billion were required for repairs and reconstruction.
A source in the Ministry of Communications told APP that Pakistan’s road network maintained by the National Highway Authority (NHA) connects with Afghanistan via two routes. He said before their blockage in November last year, the Nato containers were being transported through Karachi-Chaman and Karachi-Torkham routes.

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has unearthed a fraud worth more than Rs20 million involving seven accused who worked in connivance with National Highway Authority (NHA) officials as well as the registrar of Federal Ombudsman at the time, The Express Tribune has learnt.
The money received by the accused, which caused a significant loss to the national exchequer, was for the purchase of land that couldn’t actually be used – the land lies under the Ravi River. FIA investigations revealed that initially, the NHA had fixed the price of the non-existent land (acquired for the construction of the Lahore bypass) at Rs5.6 million. Later, however, NHA officials paid over Rs20 million to the beneficiaries on bogus property documents because of added interest. The hefty interest had to be paid due to a delay in payments.
