KARACHI: A division bench of the Sindh High Court, comprising Justice Maqbool Baqir and Justice Abdul Rehman Farooq Pirzada, issued notices to the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) administrator, Clifton Cantonment Board (CCB) CEO and others for April 3, in a contempt application filed by the residents of Khayaban-e-Hafiz.
The counsel for the petitioners, Advocate Omer Soomro, submitted that the SHC, on February 23, had allowed DHA to proceed with the construction of the Gizri flyover, although it had directed that the construction should end at the petrol pump on Khayaban-e-Jabal.
According to DHA’s initial plans, the flyover was extending beyond this specific point and was entering the residential zone. He added that the bench had also directed the submission of the project report to the Pakistan Environment Protection Authority but that directive has been conveniently ignored. In conclusion, the counsel stated that construction beyond the petrol pump would create hardships for the petitioners and prayed the bench to restrain the respondents from violating court orders.
