KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to allot 1,000 acres of land to the families of armed forces personnel who lost their beloved in the war on terror.

The decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting. The Board of Revenue (BoR) confirmed to The News on Wednesday that the directives of President Zardari had been received in this regard.

Sources confirmed that the land would be allotted free of cost to the families of more than 3,000 personnel in Phase-9 of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on the Super Highway. The DHA is already developing the area for a housing scheme.

According to the sources, the BoR has issued instructions to the concerned authorities to start work for allotting 1,000 acres of land in the DHA.The market value of this land runs into billions of rupees. However, the government has decided to allot this land to the families of martyred personnel free of cost in order to boost the morale of armed forces.

In his directives, President Zardari said it was the responsibility of the government to acknowledge the services and sacrifices of these martyrs and pay due respect and honour to them and their families, the sources said, adding that the president had selected Sindh for this purpose and directed the provincial government to allot the land.
