The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) should supply eight million gallons of water per day to the Clifton Cantt in order to overcome water scarcity faced by the residents of Clifton and the Defence Housing Authority. This was stated at a meeting held at the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) and presided over by MNA Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur, Chairman of the Sub-Committee on DHA and Cantonment Board Affairs of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defence.
The meeting was also attended by CBC President Brig Anis Ahmed, MNA Amir Ali Magsi and other officials of the CBC and KWSB.
Talpur urged the water board officials to take emergency steps for overcoming serious water crisis faced by the dwellers of Clifton Cantonment and DHA areas.
The KWSB officials committed provision of eight million gallons of water supply to the Clifton Cantonment as early as possible for resolving the water scarcity issue.
Meanwhile, CBC President Brig Anis Ahmed presided over another meeting to discuss the issue of illegal constructions in Bazaar area of Clifton Cantonment.
MNA Khushbakht Shujat and former provincial minister Saleem Zia, who attended the meeting, assured the CBC officials that as public representatives of the area, they would fully cooperate and coordinate with the cantonment board authorities for resolving the issue of illegal constructions in the Clifton Cantonment area.
Managing Director (MD) Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), Misbahudin Farid has directed the chief engineer bulk to keep hydrants closed of the water utility from 10:00pm to 7:00am situated in areas like Landhi, Korangi so that the water stored could be supplied to these areas and to the Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
He issued these directives while paying a visit to areas like Korangi and Landhi to know the water supply situation. He monitored the functioning of the hydrant in the area.
The MD KWSB also issued directives on this occasion to completely shut a hydrant in the area of 16,000 Road, Korangi owing to submitting fake Challan.
The MD ordered the chief engineer bulk to take steps for the provision of improved water supply to industrial areas of Landhi and Korangi, their residential areas, DHA and adjacent areas as per quota.
He ordered that special operation should be conducted against water theft on bulk supply lines of Landhi and Korangi to improve the water supply status.
