CM promises transparency in low-cost housing

PUNJAB Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday the project of low-cost housing schemes of the Punjab government would materialise the dream of homeless and low-income people of having a house of their own and these schemes would also be completed in a transparent manner like other development projects.

He stated this while chairing a meeting of the core group of the Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC) which considered various aspects of the low-cost housing schemes project. Taskforce on Special Initiatives Chairman Haroon Khawaja, PLDC Chairman Nadeem Babar, Members Alman Aslam and Shaukat Elahi also participated in the meeting.

The chief minister said that low-cost housing schemes would be of a high standard and provision of all basic facilities would be ensured there. He said the government would also give subsidy to the destitute and poorest of the poor on houses.

He said the project would be completed in a transparent manner in the interest of low-income homeless people.

He said 20 percent quota for widows and orphans and five per cent for disabled persons would be allocated in these schemes. He directed the company to submit different models regarding financial and technical aspects, price of houses and other matters within seven days. He also appreciated the keen interest of the chairman and members of the company in this public welfare project.

Earlier, the chief minister was briefed on the pace of implementation of the project.

MODERN REHAB CENTRE FOR THE DISABLED: Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that welfare and rehabilitation of the disabled persons is the collective responsibility of the government and society. He said a state-of-the-art centre for the rehabilitation of the disabled was being set up in the provincial metropolis.

He stated this while chairing a meeting regarding setting up the centre and the Board of Directors of the Punjab Fund for the Disabled. He said all-out facilities for the rehabilitation of children and elderly persons suffering from any disability would be available at the centre.

He said that Board of Directors of Punjab Fund for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled had been formed which would work in a company mode which would be completely autonomous in financial and administrative affairs. Additional chief secretary, secretaries of health, social welfare, finance, special education departments and other persons concerned were present on the occasion.

The chief minister said a unique institution for the disabled was being set up in Punjab where all-out facilities would be available for their rehabilitation.
