KARACHI: This is with reference to your recent report on the planning of certain major roads in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority, specifically Zamzama Boulevard and Khayaban-e-Shamsheer. The fact of the matter is that the plan to make the first road one way and remove the median divider from the latter was drawn up over two years ago. As a first step, all the cuts on Zamzama were closed off. After that, the follow up was not good and this showed the myopic vision of the men in khaki.
Instead of streamlining traffic in the area, this ill-conceived plan has ended up creating a traffic nightmare every day on this important thoroughfare. For the DHA officer to claim that “glitches” with regard to this scheme are being sorted out is to mock everyone’s intelligence. The problem is that those who are in charge do not know the first thing about traffic planning.
