Islamabad—The Capital Development Authority (CDA) are turning a blind eye towards the green belts which have been turned into parking lots in federal capital.
It has been observed that the areas allocated for green belts are in a miserable condition.
According to the CDA laws, no movable and immovable structure could be made on these greenbelts, but unfortunately these are being used for parking lots and occupied by several departments and organization.
Some of the departments have built structures on greenbelts in their parking lots, violating the by-laws of the civic body. However, it was also revealed that they have been paying nominal charges to the CDA for this facility.
This is not only a matter of concern for the environment- friendly people but also an issue for consideration for the town planner, the CDA.
Due to shortage of parking lots, motorists are forced to park their cars in the green belt areas specifically marked for plantation and designed to keep the environment clean.
The cars parked in green belt areas have become a common sight in Islamabad. The situation is likely to worsen, if some remedial measures are not taken. The use of green belts as parking lots has become routine and some departments have even developed parking areas in the designated green belts, violating the CDA by-laws.
When contacted, concerned official of CDA was not ready to respond on the issue.
