ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) will soon shift pollution-causing industries from residential areas of the capital to a new industrial estate being set up in Sector I-17 to save the residents from health risks and protect flora and fauna of the area.
A CDA official said the authority had acquired land for establishment of the industrial estate. He said the CDA would equip the proposed industrial estate with all basic facilities for proper disposal of waste particularly emitted by marble industries.
“Industrial units established in Sector I-9 are posing serious health hazards to the residents of nearby sectors I-8, I-9 and 1-10,” the official conceded, adding, the industrial waste was being dumped in water channels of the area.
The I-9 industrial area lacks facility to treat wastewater, the official said, adding, the CDA had not allowed dumping of industrial waste in any area of the city. The official said the CDA would not force any industrialist to arrange shifting of their enterprises to the new estate.
However, he said, the authority would also not allow the existing industries to pollute the area, otherwise action would initiated against their runners.
