LAHORE: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta has suspended the Model Town and Green Town market committee inspectors, Liaqat Ali and Mirza Nasir for not abiding by instructions and neglecting their duties at Sunday Bazaars.
The DCO paid unannounced visits to a number of other Sunday Bazaars including those in Johar Town and Shadman, and cancelled the licences of 11 shopkeepers for dealing out short measures and selling substandard goods at higher prices. Bhutta also sent two kilogrammes of all the vegetables present at a stall, for free to a woman because he caught the shopkeeper dealing out short measures.
The DCO has also formed committees comprising three well-reputed stall owners, Cantt DDOR Saleh Saeed, the town officer (revenue) and town municipal officers to ensure the provision of quality goods at proper rates during Ramazan. He also took notice of an incident in which a shopkeeper, in the Model Town Sunday Bazaar was found selling dead chickens and ordered an inquiry and stern action against the culprit.
