ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) evacuated eight kanals of land worth of Rs 480 million located on main Murree Road after a two hours operation against encroachers on Tuesday.
Enforcement department of the CDA had received a complaint that Sheikh Khurshid had allegedly occupied eight kanals of land on main Murree Road near Malpur. It said he not only had fenced the area and erected a wall but also fixed a gate on the boundary wall and was constructing illegal building on the land.
Enforcement team reached at the said place and instructed him to vacate the land but Khursheed gathered over 50 persons and resisted the CDA team to demolish the boundary wall. CDA team called additional contingents of enforcement and started operation. Initially encroachers tried to resist but later stopped and demolished the gate and wall.
Manzoor, Sami, Ehsan and other residents of the locality told Daily Times that land mafia had been continuously trying to encroach the land on main Murree Road. Because of illegal construction, sewerage lines could not be laid and it had become problem for locals.
Director General (DG) Planning Ghulam Sarwar Sandhu told Daily Times that land located on main Murree Road increased the natural beauty of the area, as there was greenery on both sides. He said no one would be allowed to construct any building etc anywhere in the city without approval of CDA.
