ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Monday emphasised the importance of the implementation of a trilateral transit trade agreement with Afghanistan and Tajikistan and the connectivity between Tajikistan and Pakistan through construction of a road between Chitral and Tajikistan through the Wakhan Corridor to promote trade and economic ties.
While speaking to ambassador of Tajikistan, Dr Zubaydullo N Zubaydov, who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House, Gilani said that he is keenly looking forward to his meetings with the Tajik president and his counterpart to discuss a range of bilateral relations during his forthcoming visit to Dushanbe to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. He said Pakistan attaches very high importance to its bilateral ties with Tajikistan and wishes to expand cooperation in defence, intelligence sharing, energy and power sectors through concerted efforts by both sides. Dr Zubaydullo briefed the prime minister on the SCO summit programme, the attendance by the leaders of SCO members, observers and guest status countries in the summit.
