Karachi: A representative delegation of Assoc of Defence Residents (ADR) led by its President Capt (R) Kamal-Al Karimi held a meeting with Administrator DHA Khalid Tirmizi to discuss various problems of the residents at Defence Housing Authority’s Main Office here today. CEO CBC and officials of DHA/CBC were also present on the occasion.
The Administrator welcoming the delegation said that it was heartening that residents associations’ and DHA were working in complete unison and cooperation to ensure speedy solution of the civic problems of the residents. He appreciated the positive attitude and understanding depicted by ADR which had resulted in bringing a tangible improvement in the area. Brig Tirmizi recollecting his recent visit to ‘Katchi Abadis of CBC applauded the CEO CBC Zeenat Ahmed and her staff for taking dynamic actions to ameliorate the problems of the residents of slum areas. He said that development plans formulated by CBC on war footing for the uplift of Katchi Abadis were highly commendable.
The Administrator said that the work on reconstruction/re-carpeting of the dug up roads in DHA was in full swing and that the entire work would be completed by 30th June. Spec Proj Dir DHA Brig (R) Iftikhar Haider said that 16 contracts of the road repairs/reconstruction project have been awarded to various contractors adding that the reconstruction work on Kh-e-Shamsheer, E Street and Kh-e-Badar was in full swing and would be completed soon.
The Administrator assured the ADR delegation that provision of secure and safe living environments to residents was DHA’s top most priority. He said that DHA was installing surveillance cameras and security gadgets in the area and negotiating with various private security agencies to work out a viable security plan for DHA. He said that DHA was at residents’ back and would provide them security at all cost. The delegation was informed that in future no building plan in DHA would be approved without the provision of emergency exits as per the amended DHA construction bye-laws. Administrator asked CEO CBC to ask Cineplex management in CBC to make arrangement for provision of requisite emergency exits and availability of fire fighting equipment at the site to obviate chances of any disaster in future.
The Administrator asked the CBC staff to ensure that embedded manhole covers were placed all over DHA and to ensure a dynamic monitoring regime for the same. He asked DHA staff to make arrangements for re-fixing of protective steel grills missing on both sides of Korangi Road.
Brig Tirmizi assured the ADR delegation that DHA was exerting pressure and influence on all stake holders of Cogen Plant to ensure that repair work of the plant was completed at the earliest to make the desalination plant operational at the earliest.
The Administrator in his concluding remarks said that DHA would continue to work relentlessly with the residents to make the Housing Authority a secure, comfortable and better place to live in.
