CDA encourages private sector to develop capital

Islamabad: Capital Development Authority (CDA) is taking steps to encourage private sector to invest in different housing and recreational projects, said CDA Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi.

Talking to a delegation of a Chinese construction company here at the CDA headquarters on Thursday, he said prospects for investment in housing, construction of roads and development of recreational facilities were bright. Senior CDA officials were also present on the occasion. “It is a basic responsibility of CDA to provide housing to residents at affordable rates besides other civic amenities,” Elahi said. He said that due to the relentless efforts of CDA, Islamabad had been turned into a modern city. “However, we are behind targets in the development of sectors, efficient management of solid waste and provision of clean drinking water round the clock,” he confessed. He said that CDA had now focused its attention on the provision of these vital facilities to people and creation of economic opportunities in the city.

“We have vast chunks of land available particularly in Zone-IV and therefore are striving to develop these tracts on modern lines,” he said adding, “We have divided the Zone-IV into different sub-zones in order to initiate projects aimed at the public welfare, generating economic activity as well as providing housing facilities to people,” he added.

“Pakistan and China are time-tested friends. Islamabad and Beijing enjoy the status of sister cities,” he said adding that such linkages enhanced and strengthened prospects for cooperation in different fields between the two countries.

“CDA will welcome cooperation from different companies in executing development projects as well as managing solid waste efficiently,” he said.

He said that in addition to big projects, there were also some small projects with a potential to have healthy impact on people’s welfare and well-being.

He said Jinnah Super Market was being developed into a city centre to attract visitors and boost economic activity. “Work is in progress on pavements and roads in the area to make the market environment friendly,” he concluded.
