CDA ‘gifts’ over 106 acres of land

ISLAMABAD – In a scandalous move, Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Engineer Farkhand Iqbal has surrendered Authority’s 850 kanals (106.25 acres) of precious land against none to a private land developer allegedly to facilitate vested interests. On Monday last, the Chairman CDA Farkhand Iqbal using his discretionary powers in the absence of CDA Member Planning and Design signed a summary, forwarded by CDA DG Planning, allowing a property tycoon to construct six kilometres long wide road facility to his housing society located adjacent to CDA’s Park Enclave.A narrow link road that extends from the main Park Road and leads toward the recently launched private housing society near Park Enclave belongs to CDA. However, the CDA Chairman by signing the summary in this regard allowed the property tycoon to construct road on his expenses but on Authority’s land. The construction of road by private land developer would provide a wide passage for private housing society that was announced within three days after the launch of Park Enclave. By doing this the Chairman CDA, knowingly or unintentionally, diverted the attention of investors towards the private housing scheme rather CDA’s own Park Enclave that is yet to be developed. The sources said the same summary was earlier initiated by the DG Planning, however, former CDA Member Planning and Design had refused to sign it. Former member planning has given dissident note on the file by writing that if CDA allowed the construction of wide road facility to the private land developer than investors would invest in his private housing scheme rather than the costly Park Enclave and that sanction of precious land in such manner was violation of rules.
