The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will introduce a tourist mini-train within the area of Rawal Lake promenade after its completion in two years, a CDA official said on Friday.
The promenade, which is currently under construction, will have an entertainment and leisure activity zone spread over 75 acres, he said.
To make the place more attractive, the CDA plans to introduce a train with rubber wheels, which will have a capacity of up to 75 passengers and will operate on a tarmac surface. The authority will also add attractions like an aviary, animated musical fountain and a shooting fountain. A food court will be set up with outlets of multinational fast-food chains.
The promenade is being completed in three phases, the development of a botanical garden, lake-side spots, and a jogging track and a drive-in cinema. The other significant features will be a water park, facilities for beach volleyball, carting and water sports.
The CDA has earmarked Rs 112 million for the project in the current budget. Suggestions from foreign diplomatic missions have also been sought on ways to develop the area and Turkey will provide assistance in the development of the existing Ankara Park near Rawal Dam.
The promenade layout plan includes a play-park for kids, fishing decks, a view deck, a mini zoo and tracks for pony and camel rides.
