Karachi: Defence Residents’ Society (DRS) held a civic reception on DHA here today. Administrator DHA Brig Khalid Tirmizi was the chief guest of the function.
Speaking on the occasion Brig Tirmizi said that the work on reconstruction/repair of dug up roads in DHA as a result of laying of new drainage system was in progress adding that the project in its entirety would be completed by June 2009. He said that the construction and carpeting of a number of major roads in DHA would be completed in two weeks and the residents would soon feel a visible change in the area.
Administrator said that DHA Cogeneration plant was out of order for the least three months due to damaged central hollow shaft of gas turbine. He said that the damaged shaft and rotor has been repaired and arrangements for procurement of auxiliary parts of desalination plant which have become faulty due to collateral damage has been finalized. He said that power & desalination plant would become operational by early March this year.
Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil promised that KW&SB would enhance the bulk supply of water to DHA after completion of its k-4 project. This would help DHA to overcome the problem of shortage of water in Defence.
The Administrator said that the work on stalled Gizri Flyover Project according to the amended design was progressing smoothly. He said that the project would be completed by June’ 2009 which would considerably ease the traffic congestion problem in Gizri area.
Brig Tirmizi said that DHA was working out a dynamic security plan in collaboration with security agencies to provide enhanced security environments for the residents. The reinvigorated security scheme is being made by taking residents’ associations on board and in collaboration with CPLC.
He said that CBC has been directed to bring visible improvement in civic amenities including sewerage, road repairs, streetlights, and sanitation and garbage collection in the area.
Earlier Mr. Zafar Iqbal, President DRS said that residents’ associations were playing a vital role in apprising DHA with residents problems and getting them resolved expeditiously. He vowed to work in unison with DHA for improving the civic environment in the area. Mian Zahid Hussain Vice President DRS and Mr Farrukh Mazhar also spoke on the occasion. Dr Huma Mir compared the programme in a superb manner.
A large number of DHA residents, technocrats, entrepreneurs, council generals of a number of countries, prominent citizens, govt and DHA officials attended the function in a large number.
