The government of Sindh has leased out 12,700 acres of land on the Super Highway to the Ministry of Defence for the creation of Phase IX of Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
According to sources in the provincial board of revenue, DHA had sent the request to the provincial government through the Ministry of Defence during the tenure of the former Sindh governor Muhammadmian Soomro for 15,000 acres of land on the Super Highway. Later, the matter was referred to the then provincial cabinet that had granted the provision of the land on a 99-year lease.
The Board of Revenue had identified the land available in two dehs, Khadeji and Abdar, located almost one kilometer away from the jurisdiction of the newly created district Jamshoro, adjacent to Lucky Marwat Cement.
Sources said that the market price of the land was evaluated at Rs 100,000 per acre to which DHA had agreed. The total price of the land comes to Rs 2.27 billion and the authority had paid Rs 400 million as the first installment of the total payment. DHA would pay the remaining amount according to the payment schedule agreed upon with the board of revenue.
With the allocation of the land for the launch of a DHA Phase IX on Super Highway, the prices of land adjoining the project have also gone up. It is expected that development activities on the Super Highway would gain momentum, including the Nooriabad Industrial Estate, because of the new project.
A spokesman for DHA, Rafat Naqvi, said that it would be a new and well-planned DHA, which would have more facilities than the existing phases that the authority has in the city. They would include roads, commercial areas, parking etc. It would be a new town, he said, adding that the new project would have more land than the existing ones.
Talking to Daily Times, Naqvi said that the authority needed some time to launch the new project so that all basic requirements including town planning and development work could be completed.
