LAHORE: Model Town Superintendent Police (SP) Dr Abid while talking to Daily Times admitted that street crime was higher in his division as compared to other divisions. He said that this was because of the commercial activity in his area.

However, he said that they had traced and stopped the maximum number of crimes like kidnapping and murder. He also said that the Model Town Police had also busted a large number of gangs involved in different crimes. A number of rural areas fall under the Model Town Division where the crime rate is much higher than anywhere else, he said.

SP Abid also claimed that he had traced and arrested the robbers responsible for robbing a money exchange in Barkat Market. However, according to official records, the Iqbal Town Divison Police was responsible for tracking down and arresting the robbers involved in the Barkat Market incident.

The suicide attack on the Iqbal Town police station on August 13 is also suspected to be in connection with the arrests made by Iqbal Town Police Station.
