Peshawar Karachi Railway Network
The feasibility study has been competed for Peshawar Karachi railway project. It is now in the final stages of review process. It is first phase of the expansion and reconstruction, also known as the Main Line 1 project (ML1), an early harvest and a strategic project of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.
A meeting held between China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC) and senior officials of the ministry of railways on Thursday. Pakistan is exploring with China to finance the project.
Mr Sun, head of CREC Pakistan mission talk with Chairman Ministry of Railways Muhammad Javed Anwar for leading a consortium in terms of the framework agreement.
CREC is well reputed construction company and holds a large share of the Chinese market and have participates in many countries like Southeast Asia and Africa for large-scale infrastructure projects specially.
Peshawar Karachi railway Project is already approved by The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) at the Planning Commission. Hopefully the rehabilitation and up-gradation of Karachi-Lahore-Peshawar railway track project will be completed by 2022.
It will have computer-based signalling and control system. The route of main line will cover Karachi to Peshawar via Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Rohri, Rahimyar Khan, Bahawalpur, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Peshawar.
A length of 1872 km railway track will cost $8,172 million. The speed of passenger trains will be raised from the current 65 km to 110 km per hour to 160 km per hour, whereas freight trains will be operated at 120 km per hour. Scope project is to double the entire track from Karachi to Peshawar.
