LAHORE: A full bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, on Thursday ordered the cooperative societies secretary to remove the words superior courts from the name of the Superior Courts Employees Cooperative Housing Society as they were defrauding the people in the name of the superior judiciary.
The bench issued the directions while hearing a petition by Naveed Afzal who had deposited money with the housing society in 1986, but no plot had been allotted to him so far. He approached the court for action against the society owners who were using the names of the superior courts to attract people.
The bench ordered the Punjab advocate general to address the grievances of the people and make arrangement to return their hard-earned money.
The bench expressed serious concerns over the use of superior courts’ name.
