CHIEF Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has granted approval to the launching of Aashiyana Housing Scheme for low-income people in Faisalabad, Sargodha, Jehlum and Sahiwal on the pattern of Lahore and directed start of work on the schemes as early as possible.
He was presiding over a meeting regarding Aashiyana Housing Project here on Tuesday. Punjab Land Development Company Chairman Sheikh Alauddin, commissioners and district coordination officers of Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Sahiwal were also present.
The chief minister said that Aashiyana Housing Scheme for low-income people had been initiated first time in the history of the country which was an important step towards transforming the country in accordance with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal.
He said that Aashiyana Housing Scheme was a coordinated project and houses were being constructed for the poor at high value land near cities. He said basic amenities would be available in the housing schemes. He said the houses would be allotted through ballot. He said that Aashiyana Housing Schemes would be completed in all districts under the umbrella of the Punjab Land Development Company while the DCOs concerned would serve as resident directors.
Kalma Chowk flyover: Shahbaz Sharif has directed that Kalma Chowk Flyover Project be completed by August 14.
He also directed that work on Multan Road and Bhutta Chowk should be accelerated. He said construction work should be undertaken round the clock. He said that he would personally review the pace of implementation of Kalma Chowk Flyover Project on weekly basis. He also issued instructions for maximum tree plantation for beautification of development projects and provision of a better atmosphere to the people.

MNA Umer Sohail Zia Butt, MPA Hafiz Mian Muhammad Nauman, planning and development chairman, finance secretary, Lahore commissioner, DCO, NLC director general, NESPAK officials, Kalma Chowk Project director and city traffic officer were also present.

He said that the whole nation was praying for the victory of Pakistani cricket team and expected outstanding performance from all players. The chief minister expressed the hope that all players would play with a team spirit and bring laurels to the country.
CLEAN-UP OPERATION: Shahbaz Sharif has said that anti-encroachment drive is in full swing in the provincial metropolis and is yielding positive results.
He said that not only people had heaved a sigh of relief and flow of traffic had improved but state land worth billions of rupees had also been retrieved in the drive. He directed that the campaign against encroachments should be continued without any discrimination and completed within a month.
