QUETTA: Project Director National Highway Authority (NHA) Noorul Hassan Mandokhail on Wednesday said that work on Kalat-Quetta-Chaman and Quetta-Zhob highways would be completed till June and December 2012 respectively.
Mandokhail said that work on the 220 kilometers long international highway stretched between Kalat and Chaman via Quetta was launched in 2006 which was stopped due to worsening law and order situation and lack of funds.
He however, said that work on the highway which links Afghanistan with Pakistan at Chaman would be completed till June 2012 after the federal government promised uninterrupted funds.
To another question Mandokhail said that work on construction of Quetta-Zhob highway was underway on full swing which is expected to complete by end of 2012.
The construction of Quetta-Zhob highway would on one side provide better travel facility to the people of district Qila Saifullah, Zhob and Sherani and on the hand would also connect Khyber Pashtunkhwa with Balochistan.
It is worth mentioning that early completion of work on Kalat-Quetta-Chaman National Highway would considerably promote trade and travel opportunities between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
