ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) will upgrade Fruit & Vegetable Market, Islamabad into a model market of the country in line with the international standards, vowed CDA Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi during his visit to the market here on Thursday.
The Fruit and Vegetable market in I-11 is a central trade hub in the region. The Chairman said that business activities in the market were on the increase and there was a dire need to develop the market inline with international standards in order to further boosts the economic activity in the federal capital.
The Fruit & Vegetable Market caters not only to the twin cities of Rawalpindi / Islamabad but also a number of areas in KP and Punjab. Elahi pledged that all out efforts would be made to provide maximum facilities to the traders in the market and in this regard one more water filtration plant would be installed adding that CDA would construct additional vegetable auction platform and sugarcane auction platform in the market. He promised to improve sanitation to ensure cleanliness. The traders demanded to allow them two-story buildings waiving the restrictions, which the chairman assured them of positive response in this regard by the civic body.
High-ups of local authorities were present on the occasion. The chairman directed CDA Engineering Directorate to take measures for up-gradation of sewerage system in the market and necessary repair of the roads and ensure smooth flow of goods carriers.
Earlier, representatives of the traders associations briefed the chairman over the problems and grievances faced by the traders and ensured full cooperation in any sort of development project in the market.
