The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will upgrade Fruit & Vegetable Market, Islamabad, into a Model Market of the country inline with international standards, as this market has transformed into a central trade hub of the region due to ever-increase trade and business volume.
CDA Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, who paid a visit to the Fruit & Vegetable Market in Sector I-11, approved installation of one more water filtration plant , construction of two additional Auction Platforms and improving the sewage and sanitation network in the market.
There is only one Auction Platform available in the market at present, which is being used by both the vegetable and fruit merchants. With two more Auction Platforms added to the market, one would be reserved for the auction of fruit produces, the other for vegetables and the third one exclusively for auction of sugarcane.
He also promised to positively consider the demand by the traders to allow them construct second stories on their existing buildings.
The CDA chairman directed the Member (Engineering) to take measures for up-gradation of sewerage system in the market and necessary repair of the roads and ensure smooth flow of goods carriers.
He said that all these steps have become necessary in wake of the fact that the business activities in Fruit & Vegetable Market are increasing day by day and there is a dire need to develop the market into Model Market inline with international standards to further boost the economic activity in the federal capital.
He said that this market is providing quality fruits and vegetables not only to twin cities of Rawalpindi/Islamabad, but also supply these items to other areas of KPK, Azad Jammu & Kashmir and the Punjab.
Earlier, representatives of the traders associations informed the CDA chairman about their problems and grievances and extended all out cooperation in developing Fruit & Vegetable Market into a Model Market .
The CDA chairman directed the concerned officers of the authority to coordinate with the traders community of the market to seek their suggestions so that development work could be completed at the earliest.
CDA chairman was accompanied by the Member (Administration) Shaukat Ali Mohmand, the Member (Engineering), Abdul Jabbar Malano, and the director municipal administration on the visit.
