The provision of a comfortable and reliable transport system to people is among the priorities of the government and measures are being taken for the purpose.
This was said by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif here on Friday while presiding over a meeting held to review provision of better transport facilities to the masses. Provincial Minister for Transport Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, Lahore Transport Company chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, the Planning & Development chairman, the secretaries of Transport and Finance were also present. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that the provision of a comfortable and reliable transport system to the people was among the priorities of the government and measures were being taken for the purpose.
He said that substantial funds had been allocated in the budget for providing modern transport facilities to the citizens. He said that provision of better transport facilities to the people was of vital importance and maximum resources would be provided for the purpose.
The CM said that Daewoo, Hyundai, Hino and other companies should be contacted for acquiring 500 buses as early as possible. He said that he wanted to see new buses on the roads of the provincial metropolis as soon as possible, directing the authorities concerned to give him briefing on the issue as soon as possible.
He also issued directions to formulate a package for providing better transport facilities to the people of Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and Multan. He also ordered the officials concerned to start work on Bus Rapid Transit System as soon as possible after settling all matters.
Lahore Transport Company chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan informed the meeting about the measures taken for providing transport facilities to the people and acquisition of new buses. He said that ten air-conditioned coasters had started plying from Defence to Civil Secretariat and the scope of the project would be extended further.
